About Alycia

A Florida native turned Indianapolis transplant, Alycia is 35 years old and has always had a passion for all forms of art.  Alycia is constantly experimenting with new ideas for her artwork.  Her artwork is inspired by her battle with chronic illness, trauma, and whimsical imagery.

Alycia is also very much inspired by the quote from the novel Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, "Eleanor never looked nice.  She looked like art and art isn't supposed to look nice.  It's supposed to make you feel something."  Every piece of artwork that Alycia has created comes with meaning and emotion because of this quote, even the sillier ones.

Alycia has a miriad of diseases that all span from her main disease - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).  ME has no cure or treatment.  While Alycia focused her professional life in the nonprofit sector, even earning a master's degree with honors in Nonprofit Management, she now focuses on making art whenever she is able.

ME has stolen a lot from Alycia over the years but it has also given her opportunities.  She has had the opportunity to really work on healing her trauma, to learn how to really rest, to read infinite novels, to meet people around the world with the same illness, to see the world from a whole new perspective, to spend more time with her husband and animals, and of course to expand her creativity.

Every day with ME is a struggle but it does not have to be a death sentence.  Alycia aims to live every day focusing on the things she can do, rather than what she can no longer do.
